BIKERS participating in illegal motorcycle racing are offered rewards of up to a total of RM450,000.

Sources told Utusan Malaysia that bets for each individual started as low as RM500 while races between workshops offered prizes of up to RM450,000 before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Popular ‘race tracks’ include the North-South Expressway, Kuala Lumpur-Seremban highway and the U-turn at the Besraya Expressway in front of Wisma Minlon.

“Cash rewards of more than RM20,000 attracted most mat rempit (illegal racers) to the point of endangering their lives and other highway users,” said one source.

Another individual who took part in such races said the reward would be determined according to the value of the bet and the number of motorcycles participating in the race.

He said there were two ‘classes’ of illegal races: a ‘pile race’ where the type of motorcycle did not matter, and a second one that was organised according to motorcycle categories.

Rewards are lower for pile races.

“The participation fee for a motorcycle is RM500 and if there are 10 machines, the winner will get RM5,000 regardless of the type of motorcycle,” he added.

He said those who participate in races by category are riders who have modified their motorcycles and the reward can reach up to RM20,000.

> Social media personality Mawar Karim, 33, denied allegations that she got hitched to a businessman known only as ‘Datuk Z’ three months ago, Harian Metro reported.

Mawar, who revealed earlier this year that she is in a relationship with a businessman from a northern state, however admitted that there are plans underway for them to get married.

“What is important is that he is able to accept my daughter who is now five years old, because I’m a package deal – not many can accept that.

“God willing, we are in the process (of getting married). The plan is there, now we can just pray and follow God’s plan. When the wedding will be held is still not known – perhaps December or next January,” she added.

Mawar married actor Fizo Omar in November 2013 with whom she had daughter Wan Maryam, but they parted ways in 2019.
