Elderly woman stabbed by daughter with can opener in Johol


KUALA PILAH: An elderly woman was stabbed by her daughter in an incident in Kampung Segineh, Inas, Johol here on Friday (Feb 20).

The victim, who is in her 80s, is believed to have been stabbed in the neck with a can opener, reported Sinar Harian.

Kuala Pilah District Police Chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said the police received information about the incident from the public at 7.08pm.

"The public reported that a fight had occurred at the location.

"Investigations revealed that the suspect stabbed her own mother in the neck using a sharp object believed to be a can opener," he said in a statement on Friday.

He said the victim, was taken to Rembau Hospital for further treatment and is currently in stable condition under hospital observation.

He added that the suspect, who is in her 50s and is the victim's biological daughter, has been detained to assist in the investigation.

"The motive for the incident is still under investigation, and it is possible that the suspect has mental health issues.

"The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing grievous hurt using a weapon or dangerous object," he said.

He urged members of the public who have any information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Kuala Pilah District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 06-484 2999.
