PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,645 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (May 28), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,502,579 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,644 of Saturday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while one imported infection was logged.
Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 1,809 patients recovering on Saturday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,441,701 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 25,218 active cases currently in the country, with 24,238, or 96.1%, observing home quarantine and 16 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.
The CovidNow portal reported that 964 patients, or 3.82% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 34, with 17 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 58.3%, with seven states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Selangor had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 82.6%, followed by Kedah (76.7%), Melaka (69.6%), Kelantan (67.7%), Kuala Lumpur (66.7%), Johor (61.4%) and Negri Sembilan (61.2%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that two Covid-19 deaths were reported on Saturday with one of them being classified as Brought in Dead (BID).
This brings the death toll to 35,660.
