Probe into police outriders escorting MP’s son

GEORGE TOWN: Two police outriders seen in a viral video escorting the son of a Member of Parliament are now in hot water.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said they have opened an investigation paper on the two traffic policemen seen escorting the car along Jalan Bukit Gambir here.

He said police discovered the viral video at 8.36pm on Saturday.

“The 20-second video found on social media shows a male driver being escorted by two traffic policemen along Jalan Bukit Gambir.

“We can confirm the incident and an investigation has been carried out on the two policemen involved.

“We will not compromise on any wrongdoing,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Viral video clips of the incident have raised eyebrows.

The two clips – one being seven seconds and the other 13 seconds long – were taken inside the vehicle that was being escorted.

The driver, a bearded man presumably in his late 20s, was recorded sitting smugly in the driver’s seat.

The video shows a policeman appearing to stop an oncoming car intending to make a turn, allowing the vehicle to run the red light.

It also shows a car having the right of way abruptly braking, causing the vehicle behind it to also stop suddenly to avoid a collision.

Attempts to contact the Member of Parliament said to be the father of the driver have been made.
