SHAH ALAM: Seremban MP Anthony Loke has been selected to lead the DAP as its new secretary-general at the party’s national congress on Sunday (March 20).
Loke takes over from the party’s Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, who had been the party’s secretary general since 2004.
Loke was selected to assume the position by the newly elected 30-member central executive committee (CEC) ensemble.
The new CEC also appointed Lim Guan Eng as party chairman; Gobind Singh Deo as deputy chairman; Nga Kor Ming, Chow Kon Yeow, Chong Chieng Jen, M. Kulasegaran and Teresa Kok as vice presidents; and Fong Kui Lun as the DAP treasurer-general.
Liew Chin Tong, V. Sivakumar and Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji were appointed as assistant secretary-general.
Meanwhile, former chairman Tan Kok Wai has been appointed party adviser, while Lim Kit Siang, who had announced his retirement from active politics earlier in the day, has been appointed as party mentor.
Under the DAP constitution, delegates attending the polls would select 30 members to helm the CEC positions.
The 30 CEC members in turn would pick the party’s top echelon leaders from among them, as well as appoint an additional 10 CEC members.
