ISKANDAR PUTERI: The government is willing to issue approved permits to cooperatives to import food such as chicken in an effort to help stabilise prices.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob urged cooperatives to pool their resources and work together.
Citing an example, he said that they could set up a central wholesaler and purchase items in bulk for a cheaper price.
"Not just for cooperatives but also shops under other agencies such as the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and Federal Land Development Authority (Felda)," he said after launching an event for entrepreneurs and cooperatives here Friday (Feb 18).
He added that there were presently 14,000 cooperatives with 7 million members nationwide.
On another matter, Ismail Sabri said the vaccination rate for children was low, mainly because some parents have doubts about the vaccine.
"Even when we first started administering vaccines for adults, many were afraid to get it but eventually they have decided to – the same goes for booster shots," he said, adding that the government would not force anyone the take the vaccine.
