KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall has postponed all of its 22nd-anniversary celebrations scheduled in February and March to be postponed as Sabah's Covid-19 cases hit 1,205 cases on Saturday (Feb 5).
Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said that the measure to postpone all events was due to the drastic increase in Covid-19 cases that was spreading in the community.
"This measure is been taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among the community and we are public health in our decision to postpone it," she said in a statement Saturday.
She said the city's 22nd-anniversary celebration would be held once the overall Covid-19 situation improves.
"We hope the public will understand (the decision)," she added.
Sabah's Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the state's cases had tripled in just three days and there was little sign of abating.
He said there were more the 296 cases compared to 905 cases reported on Friday (Feb 4).
He said that 43.7% were sporadic or symptomatic cases.
"We can expect the number to rise further," he added.
