PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Razak kept up his verbal spat with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin by accusing the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president is power crazy.
In a Facebook post on Saturday (Feb 5), Najib hit back against accusations by Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional that Umno forced the dissolution of the Johor state assembly because it was greedy for power.
"Holding the Johor state elections to return the mandate to the people after a Bersatu assemblyman passed away was not a ‘greedy’ move," he said.
This was following Kempas assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian's death in December last year.
He also said that this was because the Johor government only had 28 out of 56 state seats at a time when investment into Johor was declining after GE14 due to an unstable state government.
“It's a step to restore the mandate so that the people can choose for themselves. The most democratic way,” he said.
“What is power-crazy is betraying your own coalition and the party founder through the Sheraton Move to become Prime Minister,” said Najib in a thinly veiled attack at Muhyiddin.
“Declaring Emergency to suspend Parliament, implementing half-baked movement control orders to make the people suffer just to avoid losing a confidence vote in Parliament is also being power crazy,” he added.
The Johor State Assembly was dissolved on Jan 22, paving the way for a snap election. The Election Commission will meet on Feb 9 to set the dates for nominations and polling.
