KOTA KINABALU: A packed programme has been drawn up in conjunction with the city’s 22nd anniversary celebration from now until the end of March.
The events commemorate Kota Kinabalu achieving city status 22 years ago and mark City Hall’s achievements through the years, said mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip.
She said City Hall had, among other things, transformed into a digitalised organisation, improved awareness of cleanliness among city dwellers, adopted anti-corruption pledges, improved efficiency and used a "Love KK" network to instil a sense of appreciation for the city.
“I can’t say we are perfect but we have come a long way and upgraded our services and efficiency,” she said after a flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall compound here on Wednesday (Feb 2).
Noorliza urged all City Hall staff to strive for excellence in their service to the department and the public, and to uphold the values of a civil servant.
The events lined up for the celebration until March 27 include a town hall session on Feb 9; an innovative, efficient and effective service launch on Feb 10; a street dance competition, acoustic battle and football tournament on Feb 12 and 13; and a Love KK programme on Feb 14.
There will also be a scientific expedition from Feb 19 to 23; a cultural rendezvous on Feb 25 and 26; an orchid exhibition from Feb 25 to 27; a KK half marathon; and an e-waste site launch on Feb 27.
From March 5, there will be a traditional food cook-off, urban farming and community composting programme; while a hiking expedition at Mount Tambuyukon will be on March 7.
Mayor Cup football and badminton tournaments for government agencies, KK City Ride, leisure fishing as well as a KK Scavenger Hunt will be held from March 12.
“Participants and those who wish to witness these events are reminded to strictly abide by all SOPs to minimise and curb the spread of Covid-19,” Noorliza said.
