Man drowns while checking crab traps near Dungun

DUNGUN: A man who went to check his mud crab traps in Kampung Tebing Tembah, Paka, near here was found drowned on Sunday (July 5).

Paka fire station operations commander Irwan Rashid said Mohd Afiq Ahmad, 36, left his house at 10am on Saturday (July 4) to check on his traps at a swamp 1.5km away.

He said that following a report of a missing man, personnel from the station arrived at 7.21am Sunday to conduct a search-and-rescue operation.

"They conducted a search around the swamp based on information from the victim's family.

"His body was discovered at 10am," he said in a statement.

He said the victim's body was handed over to the police and sent to Hospital Dungun for a post-mortem.

The victim's brother-in-law, Mohd Hafis A Talib, 47, said Afiq suffered from epilepsy.

He lodged a police report at 11pm yesterday after his brother-in-law failed to return home. – Bernama
