IT was a close shave for actress and former Miss Hong Kong Michelle Reis (pic) when she was rushed to the hospital and spent 48 hours in the intensive care unit (ICU) last Tuesday.Revealing her ordeal, the 51-year-old shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed on Instagram on Saturday, reported China Press and Guang Ming Daily.

“I have been in the ICU for 48 hours. I have been saved. I sincerely thank the professional medical team for their thorough care.

“I am so sorry for making my family worried,” she wrote, adding that she has since returned home.

Responding to queries, Reis said she had palpitations in the wee hours of Tuesday and quickly went to a hospital following her family doctor’s advice.

“I was conscious throughout the treatment. The doctor told me that had I come in any later, there wouldn’t be a Michelle Reis in this world anymore,” she said.

Grateful to be alive, Reis said it was important to be mindful of one’s health. “Being alive is a victory itself,” she added.

She was last seen in public on Christmas as a judge and guest on a talent reality show.

Reis has taken on a low profile since she got married to property tycoon Julian Hui Chun-hang in 2008. They have a 10-year-old son, Jayden Max Hui.

Oriental Daily reported that a thief who fled to Malaysia 14 years ago returned to Singapore to face the music because of his guilty conscience.

Haron Ismail, 62, was sentenced to four years and nine months in jail for his crimes on Friday after he surrendered in 2017.

When in court, he said he had had “no peace of mind” and was constantly reminded of his guilt.

In 2003, Haron fled to Malaysia after his accomplices, Abdul Karim and Rusli, were arrested for theft and housebreaking.

He said he initially thought of never returning to Singapore to evade arrest.

Rusli served six years in jail while Abdul Karim was sent to 12 years of preventive detention, and a maximum of 24 strokes of the rotan.

Haron pleaded guilty to three charges, with another three charges considered in sentencing. However, he would not be caned as he is above 50.
