Perak DAP rep arrested for drug use at nightclub


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A two-term Perak state assemblyman from DAP has been arrested for drug use after a police operation at a nightclub in Prai.

It is learned that the politician was arrested during a police operation at a nightclub early on Thursday (Jan 13).

The suspect was brought to Bukit Mertajam court for remand on Friday (Jan 14) morning.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed the Perak assemblyman was picked up during the raid.

The suspect was detained with another 48 individuals aged between 21 and 70 years old.

It's understood that the lawmaker is a two-term assemblyman from DAP and has been remanded for one day.

State Narcotics Crime Investigations Department chief Asst Comm Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the suspect was tested positive for drugs.

He said a second test will be conducted.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
