PETALING JAYA: Over RM3.7mil worth of aid for flood victims have been contributed by agencies under the Transport Ministry so far, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said since the floods hit the country in December, over 920 volunteers including officers and staff of the ministry’s agencies have been mobilised to help victims of the disaster.

"At the moment, volunteers are still on the ground and are continuing efforts to help victims of the floods.

"I would like to convey much thanks and appreciation to all officers and staff of the agencies under the ministry for their commitment in helping the community in times of need," said Dr Wee in a Facebook statement Wednesday (Jan 5).

Dr Wee said besides being involved with post-flood cleaning works, agencies under the ministry have also been distributing aid such as food, drinks and necessities like mattresses, pillows, blankets, children’s diapers and water jets.

He added that furniture and electrical items have also been donated to surau and mosques that have been affected by the floods.

"The ministry has also helped set up two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to put up flood victims who have been displaced," said Dr Wee.

The two PPS set up by the ministry are at the Malaysian Airport Training Centre and the Malaysian Aviation Academy.
