Licence fee exemption period for tourism operators, tour guides extended

KUALA LUMPUR: The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry will extend the licence fee exemption period for tourism operators and tour guides from Jan 1 to June 30 next year.

The ministry said in a statement on Friday (Dec 31) the decision was made to help industry players affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It said the fee exemption was also given to tourism operators and tour guides who have yet to receive approval for licence renewal, and those who have obtained approval but were unable to make payment due to the National Recovery Plan.

The ministry said eligible parties should apply for renewal within the exemption period according to the expiration date of their respective licences.

"This is to ensure compliance with existing legislation,” it added.

According to the statement, the licence renewal fee exemption involving 2,219 tourism companies amounts to RM1,646,100.

Prior to this, the ministry granted exemption from licence renewal fees twice, for the periods Jan 1 to June 30 and July 1 to Dec 31 this year. – Bernama
