Enjoy your golden years, don't cast aspersions on Umno leaders, Bung advises Dr M

KOTA KINABALU: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should enjoy his golden years instead of making wild accusations against current Umno leaders, says Datuk Bung Moktar Radin.

"Enough is enough, use your golden years to rest your mind and body, and enjoy life,'' the Sabah Umno chairman said when asked about Dr Mahathir's accusation that the party had been hijacked by the corrupt.

Bung, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, said this was not the first time Dr Mahathir had made such accusations.

"We, as a party, feel that he (Dr Mahathir) regrets leaving and wants to come back, but is ashamed of himself.

“It doesn't matter what Dr Mahathir says, let time decide. I am confident and believe that the people know how to evaluate which party can give prosperity to the people,” he said after launching the Sabah Public Works Department recognition and appreciation ceremony on Thursday (Dec 16).

He said Dr Mahathir came back to power in 2018 but lost it due to his own decision to resign.

On the timing for the 15th General Election, Bung said that Sabah Umno would leave it to the party's central leadership to decide and it was concentrating on strengthening its election machinery.

On the constitutional amendment to put Sabah and Sarawak in line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 passed by Parliament, Bung said it was time for Sabah to manage its own development needs.
