KUALA LUMPUR: The government has deferred tabling five Bills for their second and third reading in Dewan Rakyat, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
"Based on Standing Order 62, I request that the Bills, items three until seven in the Order Papers, are to be deferred and read for the second and third reading at the next meeting," the Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) said when raising the matter in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Dec 16).
The Bills, he mentioned, were the Employment (Amendment) Bill 2021, Control of Supplies (Amendment) Bill 2021, Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2021, Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill 2021, and Independent Police Conduct Commission Bill 2020.
The other two Bills - the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) (Amendment) Bill 2021 and the Prevention and Control Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Bill 2021 - remained in the Order Papers and will be tabled for their second and third reading before put to vote on Thursday.
Earlier, at a press conference, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the Bill to amend the Prevention and Control Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342) would go ahead.
He noted that the Amendments were needed to fight the next Covid-19 wave in the coming months.
A delay, he said, would set back ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the virus by several months.
