Critical need to update 32-year-old Act 342


PEOPLE’S Health Forum (PHF) is concerned over Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob taking the stage of the Umno general assembly to announce that the government will not continue to table the amendments to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Ismail Sabri was quoted as saying that “he took into account the views from the Umno supreme council, which were not in favour of the amendments to the Act.” According to the same news report, one delegate at the assembly had also raised the issue of the proposed increase in fines.
