KUALA LUMPUR: Financial investment and management adviser Datuk Dr Nazri Khan has warned the public not to fall for scams using his name.
He said the public should always be careful and cautious when making an investment to avoid being a scam victim.
The expert, popularly known as “DDNK”, said scammers were using his name on social media to conduct their schemes.
“There are reports of victims who claimed that scammers are using my name, posters and videos, as well as that of the Vega Hermosa International Sdn Bhd company.
“These scammers are using my tagline ‘Tak Hensem Tak Apa, Janji Kaya’ (Looks don't matter, wealth does) and segments from my talks to dupe victims,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday (Dec 15).
He said he, along with Vega Hermosa, had lodged reports with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in addition to more than 20 police reports.
“Losses suffered by the victims is between RM20,000 and RM100,000,” he said, adding that there are more than 100 entities using the company’s name.
“The MCMC has taken action previously by shutting down these websites entities but the investment scams using the DDNK name returned with new websites or Facebook accounts,” he added.
Nazri also said scams using his name and his company’s name became more apparent during phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan earlier this year.
“The scammers are taking advantage of the B40 segment and the elderly who live in rural areas.
“Most of the victims are contacted by parties posing as me or DDNK senior officers, offering financial investment and management services with high returns. Don’t be fooled,” he said.
He also reminded the public to always check the registration certificate of every financial investment and management company on the Securities Commission official website before making any investment.
