Mohana Muniandy makes a comeback, to helm Wanita MIC again

KLANG: Former Wanita MIC chief Datuk Mohana Muniandy made a comeback with a roaring victory in the party's national women's wing election.

Mohana defeated incumbent SJ Usha Nandhini with a comfortable margin, while her running mate M. Vikneswary Babuji also won against her opponent Dr P. Thanaletchumy for the number two position.

Mohana's allies, Hulu Langat division's Krishnaveny Arumugam and Inbavally Renganathan, who was the Pahang women's wing chief, also won the two central working committee seats reserved for the party's women's wing, edging out Usha's team mates Premah Palaniandy from Perak and Karampal Kaur from Selangor.

Mohana bagged 2,550 votes against Usha Nandhini's1,323 votes whilst Vikneswary received 2,303 votes against Dr Thanaletchumy's 1,353 votes.

Both Krishnaveny and Inbavally won 2,514 and 2,213 votes respectively.

Following her defeat, Usha thanked everyone for the opportunity given to her to lead the party.

"We pledge to continuously serve the party," she said after thanking those who voted for her.

Mohana opted not to contest in the previous MIC polls, paving the way for Usha.

Usha had been active in the MIC's women's wing for almost three decades and had served under numerous women chiefs including Datin Paduka Jaya Parthiban and Datin Paduka Komala Krishna Moorthy.

She was also appointed the Puteri MIC coordinator by former party president Tun Samy Vellu in 2003, taking over from Datuk Anusha Santhirasthipam.
