Cop, teen charged with distributing Ecstasy

JOHOR BARU: A policeman and a teenager were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with distributing 181g of Ecstasy in the city centre last month.

The accused, L/Kpl C. Harethaess, 27, and P. Darshan, 19, nodded after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin.

No plea was recorded and no bail was offered.

According to the charge sheet, the two had allegedly conducted the offence at a car park near a healthcare centre in Jalan Persiaran Southkey 2, Kota Southkey here, at about 9.45pm on Sept 23.

The act is an offence under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by the deputy public prosecutor Nur Aina Syakira Muhammad Syafiq Sim.

L/KPL Harethaess, who is still working at the Labu police station in Negri Sembilan, was not represented while Darshan who works as a runner was represented by Muhammad Firdaus Adnan, Muhamad Wafiq Hadie and Amer Ashrhaf Azuddin.

The court set Dec 5 for next mention.
