Malaysian-born MasterChef alumni team up for new food show

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian-born celebrity chefs Adam Liaw and Poh Ling Yeow are collaborating to show off the best of the country's cuisine on an upcoming television show.

The Australia-based duo’s new series, Adam and Poh's Malaysia in Australia, is set to premiere on Oct 7 at 8.30pm on the Australian SBS Food channel.

As former MasterChef Australia contestants, Liaw and Poh say they are bringing their A-game to the show.

The series will feature cook-offs, tips from experts including Malaysian expatriates, farmers, and an appearance by a Hollywood superstar.

In each episode, the duo will embark on a quest to find fresh Australian produce in an attempt to recreate popular Malaysian dishes such as beef rendang and roti canai.

Liaw expressed his enthusiasm for working together with Poh.

“This is the first time we have been on camera together, so making this series has been a huge amount of fun.

“It's also a valuable opportunity to highlight the connections between Australia and Malaysia, two nations that share such a long history and are so special to both of us,” he said in a statement.

Poh said she was excited to blend the best of both Australian produce and Malaysian flavours.

“We have such amazing produce here in our own backyard, but what always surprises me is how even the tiniest of places can create delicious experiences.

“Together, Adam and I are hitting the road to find inspiration for Malaysian cuisine right here in this place we call home,” she said.

Liaw emerged as the winner of MasterChef Australia in 2010, whereas Poh rose to fame on the inaugural season of the show as a runner-up behind Julie Goodwin in 2009.

Both chefs admitted to discovering many similarities between Malaysia and Australia throughout filming for the show.
