Wee: Support 22 paralympians as ‘Keluarga Malaysia’

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has called on Malaysians to unite and give support to the 22 national athletes for the coming Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

“Let us together as ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ give support to 22 national athletes who will be competing in nine types of sports involving a total of 32 events,” he said on Facebook yesterday. “All the best to all our national heroes and heroines.”

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be taking place from today until Sept 5.

In the previous 2016 edition of the games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Malaysia created history by winning three gold, two silver and six bronze medals.

This year, among those competing are Mohd Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, Mohd Ziyad Zolkefli and Abdul Latif Romly, who won gold medals in the sprint, shot put and long jump events.

Another Malaysian hopeful for a gold medal is Sarawak’s Bonnie Bunyau Gustin who will be taking part in the men’s 72kg powerlifting event.
