Muhyiddin should call for Dewan Rakyat sitting soon, not wait for September, says Kula

IPOH: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should call for a Dewan Rakyat sitting to decide on the vote of confidence soon and not in September, says DAP’s M. Kulasegaran.

The Ipoh Barat MP said the Pagoh MP should do it soon as it was an urgent matter.

"He should have done it on day one last year.

"There was a precedent set by Tun Hussein Onn when he was appointed Prime Minister," he said in a video posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday (Aug 4).

In 1976, Barisan Nasional senator Wan Ibrahim proposed a motion of confidence regarding the appointment of Tun Hussein Onn as Prime Minister.

"He should call for a sitting next week to decide on it once and for all," he said.

Kulasegaran believes that Muhyiddin had lost the majority of the Dewan Rakyat when 11 Umno MPs rescinded their support.

"There is no question of him having a majority. Many are leaving," he claimed.

Muhyiddin had said, during a special address Wednesday, that he will not resign and would table a motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat in September.

His proposal was approved by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, whom he had sought an audience with earlier.

On Tuesday (Aug 3), Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the party would stand with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and called on all its MPs to rescind their support towards the Perikatan government after its special Supreme Council meeting.
