Why wait till September to prove support, Najib asks PM

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has questioned why Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin needs to wait until September to prove that he still enjoys majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

“He (Muhyiddin) said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had requested for evidence that he has majority support.

“He said the King informed him that only eight Umno lawmakers had withdrawn support for him.

“Remember. He only said eight and that he believed that he still enjoys the majority support.

“But he promised the King that a motion of confidence will be tabled in parliament in September.

“Why not now since we just entered the month of August?” Najib asked in a Facebook post Wednesday (Aug 4).

He was responding to Muhyiddin’s remark that a motion of confidence will be tabled to determine the legitimacy of his position as the prime minister in Parliament in September.

Najib, who is also a former Umno president, asked whether the delay was due to the detection of Covid-19 cases in parliament.

“But from what I see those who are exposed to Covid-19 in Parliament are freely going here and there, even holding meetings every night at their homes,” said Najib, in reference to the meetings which were conducted at the Prime Minister’s private residence on Tuesday (Aug 3) night.
