Cops nab 29 suspected drug addicts at Balik Pulau jetty 'drug den'

BALIK PULAU: Twenty-nine suspected drug addicts were detained by police during a raid at a jetty in Teluk Kumbar here.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the suspects, aged from 20s to 60s, were nabbed during Ops Sarang from 8am to 1pm on Sunday (July 25).

"During the raid, the suspects tried to escape. Some tried to flee in a fishing boat and others jumped into the sea," he said.

Supt Kamarul said policemen from the Batu Uban marine police base helped to corner and arrest the suspects.

Supt Kamarul said the suspects were taken to the Bayan Baru police station for further investigation and urine tests.

He said most suspects were hard-core drug addicts and had been using the jetty as their drug den.

He added that drugs believed to be heroin were also confiscated during the operation.
