Covid-19: Another 103 deaths bring total to 5,677, says Health Ministry


PUTRAJAYA: Another 103 people in Malaysia have died due to Covid-19, the Health Ministry reported on Tuesday (July 6).

This takes the country’s Covid-19 death toll up to 5,677.

Of the 103 fatalities, 94 involved Malaysians while nine were foreign nationals, and Selangor had the most deaths with 43 cases.

Other states with deaths are Kuala Lumpur (18), Negri Sembilan (12), Johor (nine), Kelantan (six), Pahang (four), Melaka (three), Sarawak (two), Kedah (two), Sabah (one), Perak (one), Labuan (one) and Penang (one).

The oldest death is a 100-year-old woman with high blood pressure who died at Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Baru, while two 21-year-old men were the youngest casualties.

One of them had diabetes and he died at Hospital Sungai Buloh, while another was a brought-in-dead (BID) case at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Temerloh. He had a history of epilepsy.

The Health Ministry added that there were 12 BID cases reported on Tuesday.

Currently, 943 patients are under intensive care, of which 450 are in need of ventilator support.

Malaysia’s case figures continued to rise with 7,654 new infections reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases up to 72,701.
