PETALING JAYA: Certain retail stores will be allowed to continue operating despite the enhanced movement control order that begins today in parts of the Klang Valley, says the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said these retail premises provided essential services and necessities to the public.
However, he also said that their operational hours would be limited during the enhanced MCO from July 3-16.
Nanta added that details of the operations of essential services depended on the Covid-19 Coordination and Management Centre in Kuala Lumpur and the Selangor Security Council Committee.
“Any enquiries about the implementation of the enhanced MCO in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur can be forwarded to the secretariat of the safety and coordination committees of both states, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
Nanta also assured Malaysians that there was an adequate supply of necessities and goods, adding that there was no need for people to hoard or panic buy supplies.
“Monitoring will continue to be carried out by the ministry’s enforcement officials every day to make sure that there is enough supply of basic necessities in all the areas.
“The ministry is confident and gives its guarantee that the supply of basic goods across the country will remain stable and adequate for the entirety of the enhanced MCO.
“It is the ministry’s hope that all parties, including merchants and consumers, will shoulder the responsibility to ensure their own safety and health through self-control and by following the standard operating procedure when venturing out of their homes, ” Nanta added.
