Kelantan to ‘vax’ up before flood season

TUMPAT: The Kelantan government will ensure the Covid-19 vaccination exercise for people in the state is completed and it hit its herd immunity target before the monsoon season begins at the end of October, says Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

He said that priority for the vaccination campaign this month will be residents at flood risk locations, including areas in the Tumpat parliamentary constituency.

He explained that this was also to avoid any difficulties that will be faced by the authorities when carrying out the vaccination process during the flood season.

“When floods occur, we fear that it could affect the vaccination process, with residents busy moving into temporary relief centres,” he told reporters after visiting Kampung Kutan Tengah – which is under an enhanced movement control order – at Pasir Pekan yesterday

In a related development, he said Kelantan will receive an additional 550,000 vaccine doses next month.

“We will also carry out a vaccine outreach programme in collaboration with the Tumpat parliamentary constituency office and service centre of the state legislative assembly to give vaccination priority to residents here in early July,” he added. — Bernama
