Fourth phase for industrial sector jabs in S’gor begins

SHAH ALAM: The fourth phase of the national immunisation programme covering the industrial sector will kick start in Selangor today at Texas Instruments Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Ampang.

This was disclosed by National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin after a meeting with Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari at the state secretariat here yesterday.

Khairy said it was crucial to vaccinate workers in industrial areas due to the number of infections.

“It is very important due to the emergence of infection clusters in workplaces so we have to pay heed to the fourth phase, ” he said.

Khairy, who co-chaired the Selangor chapter of the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force meeting with Amirudin, said Selangor would be able to get an 80% vaccination rate by September if it successfully increases its daily vaccinations.

“The current capacity is 43, 000 doses a day.

“With the increase in the number of private clinics and hospitals, we expect the capacity to be increased to 60, 000 a day. But the target is Selangor must reach 135, 000 doses a day in July and 165, 000 doses daily in August, ’’ he said.

Separately, Amirudin said the industrial sector workers must be vaccinated to prevent the state’s economic sector from crumbling.

“If the industrial sector collapses, it will adversely impact not only the employers but also the workers who could lose their jobs, ’’ he said, adding that the state would complement efforts of the International Trade and Industry Ministry in getting industrial workers vaccinated.

Amirudin also said Selangor’s procurement of vaccines would contribute towards increasing the number of people vaccinated.

“Our strategy is to vaccinate 80% of the state’s population by September, ” he said.
