Health Ministry finds no link between radiation exposure, cancer cases at UMMC

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has confirmed that there is no technical evidence to support claims that radiation exposure at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) Nuclear Medicine Unit caused cancer cases among its staff.

In a statement on Thursday (April 23), the ministry said a comprehensive investigation had been carried out by the Medical Radiation Regulatory Division to assess radiation safety levels and compliance with legal requirements under the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 (Act 304).

"The findings showed that radiation safety levels at the facility are safe and well-controlled, with no critical issues related to radiation safety compliance," it said.

"The public is advised not to speculate or spread unverified information that may cause undue concern," the statement added. – Bernama
