Two killed, one hurt in crash on Kimanis-Keningau road


KOTA KINABALU: Two motorists were killed while a passenger was injured in a collision along the Kimanis-Keningau road on Thursday (April 23) morning.

In the 11am incident, the victims, both driving their own cars, crashed into one another and were pinned in their seats.

Kimanis fire station chief Nelson Ponji said an emergency call came in at 11.34am, and rescue personnel arrived at the scene, 25km away, about 25 minutes later.

He said operations commander Anwar Bahrin reported that there were three victims involved – two men who were pronounced dead at the scene, and a woman who was injured.

The two men were aged 35 and 61 while the woman is 52 years old, he added.

"The men had to be extricated using rescue equipment before they were pronounced dead by Health Department officials on scene," Nelson added.

The deceased were taken to the hospital for post-mortem examinations while the woman was taken for emergency treatment.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
