Covid-19: Five deaths, 706 new cases in Sarawak on Friday (June 4)


SIBU: Sarawak recorded five deaths, all of them men, and 706 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (June 4).

The State Disaster Management Committee said 395 or 55.95% of the total cases happened in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

Kuching had the most cases with 167 followed by Sibu (115), Miri (113), Sri Aman (50), Kapit (43), Bintulu (40), Samarahan (32), Subis (27), Mukah (19), Selangau (18), Beluru (18), Kanowit and Lundu (eight each), Meradong (seven); Kabong and Asajaya (five each); Lubok Antu and Dalat (four each); Bau, Sarikei and Tanjung Manis (three each); Lawas, Sebauh, Tatau, Serian, Matu (two each); and Song, Simunjan, Julau, and Limbang (one each).

The total number of cases now stands at 49,920.

"The five casualties bring the number of deaths to 316," the committee said in a statement.

Only one new cluster, the Jalan Muara Cluster in Kuching, was detected.

"Jalan Muara is a workplace cluster involving the birds' nest business where the index case contracted the virus and spread it among workers," it added.

Of the 108 people screened, 15 including the index case were found positive.
