Covid-19: Several areas in Perak, Pahang, Terengganu and Sabah under EMCO from May 29-June 11

PUTRAJAYA: Several areas in Perak, Pahang, Terengganu and Sabah will be placed under the enhanced movement control order beginning Saturday (May 29).

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in Perak, the lockdown will be imposed at Sitiawan sub-district covering Sitiawan, Seri Manjung and Ayer Tawar.

A total of 135 Covid-19 cases had been reported in the sub-district between May 10 and 23, contributing 58.7% of the total number of cases in Manjung district.

A spike in the number of cases were recorded at highly populated areas involving Pekan Sitiawan, Pekan Ayer Tawar, Pekan Kg Koh, Pekan Pasir Panjang and Bandar Seri Manjung.

He said the enhanced MCO will also be enforced at three localities in Bera, Pahang.

The affected areas are Bandar Triang, Pekan Kemayan and Gugusan Mendi, where 76 cases were reported out of 1,258 screenings carried out, with infectivity rate at 6%.

In Terengganu, the Kuala Berang sub-district in Hulu Terengganu will be placed under lockdown after 37 Covid-19 cases were reported from 213 screenings carried out at the locality.

In Sabah, the order will be enforced at Kampung Baru Durok, Keningau and Kampung Mook in Kinarut.

Ismail Sabri said that 158 screenings were carried out at Kampung Baru Durok where 28 positive cases were discovered while in Kampung Mook, nine out of 35 people were tested positive with infectivity rate at 25.7%.

“All the localities will be placed under the enhanced MCO until June 11.

“This will allow authorities to put measures in place to prevent infectivity to other areas by controlling the movement of people in the affected areas, ” he said on Thursday (May 27).
