Covid-19: 724 nabbed for violating SOP on Wednesday (May 26), 712 issued compound notices

PUTRAJAYA: Police have arrested 724 individuals for various standard operating procedure (SOP) violations.

Among the offences committed were no social distancing (227), failure to register details when entering premises (148), not wearing face masks (130), failure to comply with the movement control order (68), cross-border travel without permission (63) and other offences (88).

Of those arrested on Wednesday (May 26), Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 712 individuals were slapped with compound notices and 12 were remanded.

The task force monitoring standard operating procedure compliance had checked 69,872 premises on Wednesday, including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government offices and hawkers.

Also inspected were wet markets/pasar tani, places of worship, recreational places and sea transport terminals.

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said enforcement authorities nabbed three locals on Tuesday (May 25) and seized three land vehicles.

"Authorities also sighted the presence of 177 vessels in Malaysian waters during 10 sighting activities carried out on May 26, and 15 illegal immigrants were chased out from our territory" he said on Thursday (May 27).

On screening of foreign workers, 219 individuals were screened on May 26 with no positive cases reported.

Cumulatively, 697,705 foreign workers had been screened, involving 36,087 employers.

Of those screened, 10,319 were tested positive for Covid-19.

Effective Feb 1, the government has made it mandatory for all foreign workers to be screened.

Ismail Sabri also said that 556 individuals had arrived in Malaysia on Monday (May 24) and all were sent to undergo quarantine at government designated stations.

Since July 24 last year, a total of 212,417 individuals had returned to the country and were quarantined at 78 hotels and nine training institutes.
