KANGAR: PAS’ Mata Ayer assemblyman Wan Badariah Wan Saad (pic) passed away at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah here at 4.26pm yesterday.
She was 50. Her death was confirmed by Perlis PAS information chief Mohamad Zahid Ibrahim in a post on the state party’s Facebook page.
“Let us all pray that her soul be blessed with divine mercy, that her sins be forgiven and that she be placed among the faithful and the righteous,” he said.
Mohamad Zahid also extended his heartfelt condolences to her family.
Wan Badariah won the Mata Ayer seat in the 2022 general election and served as a state executive councillor under former Perlis mentri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli from November 2022 until December last year.
Her death leaves PAS with five assemblymen in the 15-seat Perlis state assembly, the same number as Bersatu.
Four seats are now vacant, while the remaining seat is held by PKR’s Gan Ay Ling, the state opposition leader.
The other three vacant seats are Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji, following the expulsion of their PAS assemblymen in December last year.
The three assemblymen – Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji) – were among eight Perikatan Nasional representatives who withdrew their support for then mentri besar Mohd Shukri.
Mohd Shukri resigned on Dec 25, citing health reasons, and Bersatu’s Abu Bakar Hamzah was sworn in as his successor on Dec 28.
The five remaining PAS assemblymen are Mohd Shukri (Sanglang), Haziq Asyraf Dun (Beseri), Muhammad Azmir Azizan (Santan), Asrul Aimran Abd Jalil (Kayang) and Razali Saad (Simpang Empat).
Bersatu’s five assemblymen are Abu Bakar (Kuala Perlis), state party chairman Izizam Ibrahim (Titi Tinggi), Marzita Mansor (Sena), Megat Hashirat Hassan (Pauh) and Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak (Tambun Tulang).
