Take the Covid-19 threat seriously, Perak MB urges the public

IPOH: The public need to be more serious in protecting themselves against Covid-19, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pic).

In a video message to the people, especially those in Perak, the Mentri Besar said people should not be careless as the number of cases is going up.

"There has been a perception lately that the Covid-19 threat is being taken lightly.

"Some even said that the pandemic is fictitious and they don't follow the standard operating procedures properly," he said, adding that the frontliners' struggle in fighting the disease was not an act.

"Some even take pride in disobeying the SOP. Such attitude and behaviour is dangerous as the threat in front of us is real.

"I am pleading to all to never be lax. The virus spreads easily and sometimes unexpectedly," he added.

Four districts in Perak would be placed under the enhanced movement control order from May 22 until June 4.

These are Pengkalan Hulu; Larut, Matang dan Selama (Mukim Taiping); Kinta (Mukim Hulu Kinta, covering Ipoh, Lahat, Chemor and Tanjung Rambutan) and Muallim (Mukim Hulu Bernam Timur).

Saarani also urged the people to stay at home unless they have urgent matters to attend to.

"If going out, please use a face mask, observe physical distancing, use hand sanitiser regularly and avoid crowded places or gatherings.

"I understand the SOP is not easy for all and a lot of people are affected," he said, adding that observing the SOP was for the greater good.

"We are short of time. The war is getting critical.

"Let's take heed and do more to protect ourselves and our family," he added.
