Sarawak Health Dept director retires after 30 years of service

SIBU: Sarawak Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing (pic) has retired after three decades of service.

Dr Chin was a familiar face at daily Covid-19 press conferences alongside Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian since the outbreak of the disease last year.

"Thank you very much to Dr Chin Zin Hing for over three decades of medical services to the people of Sarawak and various contributions to the medical development of Sarawak," said Dr Sim in a Facebook post.

Dr Sim said the work of the state Health Department had never been easy.

"In Sarawak, our state medical director has to cover the whole area, which is equivalent to the job scope of 11 state medical directors in Peninsular Malaysia!" he said.

Dr Sim signed off by thanking Dr Chin, 60, by saying "Truly outstanding service Dr Chin. Happy retirement. Thank you very, very, very much."

Dr Chin was born in Kanowit and studied at SK Ek Ting, SMK Sedaya and Tanjung Lobang School in Miri.

He obtained his medical degree from Universiti Malaya.
