Firemen, villagers struggling to put out blaze raging through Kampung Meruntum, Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Villagers and firemen are battling against a fire raging through Kampung Meruntum in Putatan near here.

The blaze which started at about 5.30pm from the water village and towards the land area, is still raging as firemen are having trouble getting into the burning structures to put out the fire.

It is learned that one of the reasons is due to the tight roads and numerous parked vehicles blocking the way.

Sources at the scene said villagers have taken their own initiative to do what they can by using pails of water to put the fire with the hopes of preventing the blaze from spreading too fast while waiting for more backup.

Some villagers have also initiated Azan prayers to bring calm to the situation.

It is not know how many structures have been destroyed or if anyone was injured in this incident.
