SOP compliance monitoring in HIDE-flagged areas increased, says Ismail Sabri

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested 236 individuals for various standard operating procedure violations, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister (Security) said among the offences committed were failure to register details when entering premises (115), not wearing face masks (50), no physical distancing (16) and other offences (55).

He said that of those nabbed, 235 individuals were slapped with compounds while one individual was remanded.

"The government has instructed the police to increase SOP monitoring for compliance in states and hotspots that have been flagged by the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 12).

He said the task force monitoring SOP compliance checked 140,598 premises on Tuesday, including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government offices, hawkers, wet/farmers' markets, places of worship, recreational areas and transport terminals.

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said enforcement authorities nabbed seven undocumented migrants and seized one land vehicle.

"Authorities also sighted the presence of 117 vessels in Malaysian waters during six sighting activities carried out," he said.

Ismail Sabri said that 762 individuals returned to Malaysia on Tuesday and all were sent for quarantine at government-designated stations.

Since July 24 last year, a total of 201,852 individuals have returned to the country and quarantined at 75 hotels and ten training institutes.

He also said that there was no choice but to place the whole country under the MCO, as the pandemic was at a worrying stage.

"The government would like to remind everyone to comply to SOPs, especially during Hari Raya celebrations.

"Always practise self-control and maintain personal hygiene throughout the festivities. Let us never be complacent because this can have dire consequences," he said.
