PETALING JAYA: The Sungai Batu mine workers' quarters in Raub, Pahang will be placed under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from May 14-27 after a spike of Covid-19 cases in the area, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Senior Minister (Security) said the Health Ministry had detected Covid-19 cases among workers of Indian nationality on Tuesday (May 11).
Ismail said that tests were conducted on 50 workers and after a risk assessment, the government decided to place the locality under EMCO.
"This is so the ministry can conduct early screening as well as contact tracing," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 12).
Ismail also announced that the EMCO at several localities would end in the next few days.
This includes Kampung Sagah in Kuching, Sarawak and Kampung Skim Cocos in Kunak, Sabah that ends on Friday (May 14), as well as SMK Melugu in Sri Aman, Sarawak that ends on Thursday (May 13).
