Stuck on the Federal Highway longer than usual

PETALING JAYA: Motorists heading towards the city centre in Kuala Lumpur found themselves stuck in traffic jams for longer than usual.

This is because the police have set up several roadblocks and stringent checks are being carried out on every vehicle due to the movement control order.

Social media users lamented being caught in a standstill for hours on the Federal Highway heading towards Shah Alam.

Twitter user @amalindiyana said she was stuck on the Highway for four hours yesterday.

She later updated that she arrived at her office in Petaling Jaya at 12.20pm having travelled from Bangi.

Another Twitter user, @aiko25, also related that she was stuck in traffic on the Federal Highway for three hours.

The situation is similar to the traffic congestion on the same highway on Saturday when traffic heading towards Kuala Lumpur was at a crawl from Petaling Jaya due to police roadblocks at the arch marking the Selangor-KL border.

Photos of a traffic crawl along the Sungai Besi toll plaza heading towards Seremban also went viral.

Meanwhile, the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) announced that those who need to travel interstate or inter-district for permitted economic activities do not need police approval.

However, they must have an approval letter from Miti and either a letter from their employer or company tag.
