Vaccination centre at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre remains open despite mall closure, says mall CEO

The Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre being fully sanitised on Sunday (May 9) to be ready for vaccination on Monday (May 10).

PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 immunisation centre at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre remains open for vaccinations despite the closure of its shopping mall, which was listed in the Hotspot Identification by Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system.

Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said the public can continue to receive their vaccinations at the convention centre as it was not affected by the closure notice on its shopping mall.

Chan said that there are 1,500 people registered to be inoculated on Monday (May 10).

“Those who will be receiving their vaccinations can drive up to our CP3 car park and walk into the convention centre. It has a car park access.

“Now that the shopping mall is also closed, there would be ample parking spaces available for those who are registered for the vaccinations, ” he said when contacted on Sunday (May 9).

Chan noted that the convention centre is responsible for vaccinating the entire population of the Petaling district that covers a population density of 1.8 million people.

Chan also assured the public that the convention centre is safe, noting that it is being manned by medical staff from the Petaling district health department.

"It is very safe and there is nothing to worry about. Just come and be vaccinated," he said.

On Saturday (May 8), Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that all premises including bazaars listed in HIDE have to close with immediate effect for three days.

This included the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre that is connected to the convention centre which was listed on HIDE.

National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had previously said that all premises and locations in the HIDE system are not Covid-19 clusters but have the potential to turn into one if pre-emptive action is not taken.
