Covid-19: Majority of new cases in KK from boarding school cluster, says Masidi

KOTA KINABALU: The majority of the 82 new Covid-19 cases in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday (Apr 21) are from the Jalan Khidmat boarding school cluster, says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic).

The state Local Government and Housing Minister said the cluster involving Sekolah Menengah Agama Kota Kinabalu (SMAKK), which is currently under an enhanced movement control order, recorded 72 new cases on Wednesday.

“Daily new cases rose to 172 today with Kota Kinabalu contributing the most, followed by Tawau (42) and Lahad Datu (15).

“There are no new cases in 14 districts, ” he said, adding that six fatalities were recorded - four in Tawau and two in Lahad Datu.

Meanwhile, commenting on Phase 2 of the national immunisation programme, Masidi said that to date 3,173 individuals with comorbidities or senior citizens state-wide had received their first dose of the vaccine since the second phase started on Monday (April 19).
