Two Malaysian students secure place at Harvard College in US

PETALING JAYA: Two Malaysian students have been accepted to study at Harvard College in Massachusetts.

Jarell Cheong Tze Wen from Kuala Lumpur and Muhammad Hamdi Ahmad Hakimi from Pahang beat all odds as the college had the lowest admission rate in its 385-year history.

On the acceptance, the Harvard Club of Malaysia said that Cheong and Muhammad Hamdi are part of the 1,968 students who were accepted for the Class of 2025 out of the 57,435 applicants - a total acceptance rate of 3.43%.

Harvard College is the undergraduate school of Harvard University, one of the world’s top higher education institutions.

“Both of these bright students were products of the national education system, with (Tze Wen) completing his SPM and A-Levels at SMK Seri Bintang Utara, Kuala Lumpur and Sunway College, Petaling Jaya and (Hamdi) graduating from SM Sains Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur before moving on to do A Levels at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar as a Bank Negara Kijang scholar, ” the statement read.

While Cheong plans to major in Mathematics, Muhammad Hamdi wants to further his studies in Economics.
