Two-metre-long croc captured in house pond

KOTA KINABALU: Personnel from the Civil Defence Corp came to the rescue of a family of seven after a crocodile “moved into” a pond in their home in the interior Keningau district.

Civil Defence officers and firemen took less than 10 minutes to capture the reptile although it gave them a brief fight before it was overpowered.

According to the Civil Defence personnel, the family made a distress call at 1pm on Monday.

They took awhile to look for the crocodile in the pond and also to assess the risks involved before moving in to capture it.

The family spotted the 2m-long crocodile weighing 100kg inside the pond in the compound of their house at Kg Titiku Pamalan in Keningau earlier the same day.

The crocodile is expected to be handed over to the Wildlife Department to be released to the wild.
