Chor is Star Media Group’s new chairman

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) has appointed Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung (pic) as its new chairman.

Chor, 66, will be the independent and non-executive chairman of SMG effective March 15.

A lawyer by profession who was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, Chor was elected Member of Parliament for five terms representing the Alor Setar constituency between 1990 and 2013.

Between 2008 and 2013, Chor served as Housing and Local Government Minister following stints as Deputy Home Affairs Minister and Deputy Finance Minister.

Prior to that between 1996 and 2004, Chor was the parliamentary secretary in the Transport Ministry.

After leaving politics, Chor entered the corporate world where he was appointed Commissioner of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) and adviser in Melati Ehsan Holdings Bhd.

He held the corporate positions between 2015 and 2017.

Chor was also an independent director at Tenaga Nasional Bhd between 2015 and 2018.
