Cops release photofit of suspect in George Town robbery case

GEORGE TOWN: Police have released a photofit of one of the two suspects in connection with a robbery case involving a housewife in her house at Jalan Van Praagh on Monday (Feb 15).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong (pic) said the photofit had a nearly 50% resemblance to one of the suspects that was provided by the victim to the police.

"The victim, however, cannot describe the other suspect involved in the incident," he said during a press conference the district police headquarters.

In the 10.30am incident, the suspects had knocked on the victim’s door and presented themselves as courier service delivery men who were sent to deliver a package to the victim.

The victim, who did not suspect anything, opened the door and one of the suspects brandished a knife at the victim and told her not to scream.

After taking the victim's gold necklace worth RM1,200, the suspects demanded RM50,000 cash but the victim told them she could not provide the cash amount.

The suspects then took away the victim's three-month-old baby and hid him in a white barrel in one of the rooms in the house with his mouth gagged and duct-taped before escaping.

ACP Soffian said those with information on the case are urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Nurfaiz Fathi Marhom at 04-2825922 (extension 228).

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
