PUTRAJAYA: The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka will be extended as there are still Covid-19 cases recorded in the area.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the order, which was supposed to end on Tuesday (Feb 16), will be extended for another 14 days.
The extension will be from Feb 17 to March 2.
He said health authorities had carried out 1,234 screenings at the locality and cumulatively recorded 331 positive cases.
“The Health Ministry has confirmed that an increase in the number of cases is still being reported among inmates. Health authorities are also waiting for the results of 21 samples.
“However, the infectivity does not involve staff and their family members, ” he said on Monday (Feb 15).
Ismail Sabri said the Government has agreed to extend the EMCO at the Sungai Udang Prison.
The same order placed on the staff quarters as well as the prison’s quarantine centre will end on Tuesday as scheduled.
