Eight localities in the country placed under EMCO, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: Two localities in Sarawak, four in Sabah and one locality each in Melaka and Perak will be placed under enhanced movement control order from June 23 after registering a spike in Covid-19 cases.

The two areas that will be placed under EMCO in Sarawak are Rumah Panjang Gabriel Bujang anak Ikau in Sungai Lepah, Tanjung Manis and Balingian Power Generation staff quarters at Jalan Sibu-Mukah.

Health authorities recorded 49 cases from 117 screenings carried out on residents of Rumah Panjang Gabriel Bujang anak Ikau while at the Balingian Power Generation workers quarters, 15 positive cases were reported.

Over in Sabah, an EMCO will be enforced in Tawau on Block 11 Kampung Titingan and Batu 7 Jalan Tingat, where 25 cases were reported.

In Kota Belud, Kampung Ejuk will be under EMCO after eight positive cases were detected and in Kota Kinabalu, the EMCO be enforced on Kampung Warisan which has 13 cases to date.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka would be placed under EMCO, except for the prison quarters.

"Health authorities carried out 262 screenings at the prison where 157 individuals were found positive for Covid-19," he said on Monday (June 21).

In Perak, an EMCO will also be placed on the Cahaya Muda oil palm refinery, in Batang Padang, including its staff quarters after 97 cases were reported from 281 screenings.

"The EMCO will be in place for 14 days from June 23 to July 6. During this period, authorities will control the movement of those in the affected areas to prevent others outside the controlled area from being infected," said Ismail Sabri.
