352 nabbed for violating MCO in Seberang Prai Utara since Jan 13

BUTTERWORTH: Police from Seberang Prai Utara district headquarters arrested 64 people for violating the movement control order 2.0 from Jan 13 to Thursday (Feb 4).

OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Noor said all those arrested were foreigners, while he said during the same period police issued summonses to 288 people, who were all locals for violating the order by trying to cross the district or state borders without approval from the police.

He said in implementing the MCO 2.0, a taskforce was formed comprising 12 teams to monitor the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

ACP Noorzainy said this would be increased to 28 teams from Friday (Feb 5).

“The taskforce will work with the other agencies such as the Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP), Health Ministry, Domestic Trade And Consumer Affairs Ministry, Civil Defence and Rela, ” he said during a visit to the road bock at the Bertam toll plaza Friday.

He said the taskforce will also monitor premises such as wet markets, night markets, construction sites, business premises, government and private sector offices and other premises.

"We have also identified two 'lorong tikus' (rat trails) in Tasek Gelugor on the boundary of Kulim and Sungai Petani, Kedah," ACP Noorzainy said.

He added that the taskforce will also assist the Human Resources Ministry to inspect workers' quarters to ensure employers are in compliance with the SOPs.

The taskforce will also visit the homes of people who are placed under home-quarantine orders to ensure they stay at home.
